TThe Evergreen Oak (also called Holm Oak) has been cultivated in Britain since the 16th century. It is the most majestic evergreen grown in Britain. Its grey-black bark and dense dark green leaves (which are spiky like a Holly when young) are brightened in early summer by a mass of dangling gold catkins. It is a slow growing large tree (25m) that responses well to clipping and training for a small garden. Thrives on chalk and excellent in exposed coastal positions. May benefit from a covering of fleece in the hardest of frosts.
