The English Oak is the mightiest of trees, rugged and strong and grows to a magnificent 35m so needs a lot of room. It lives for centuries and supports the largest number of wildlife species. The timber has built cities and navies and the bark was used extensively in the tanning industry. The Oak was worshipped by many ancient peoples, indeed Druid means "Oak Man". The Mighty Oak remains a symbol of strength today, with its familiar shaped leaves and acorns present in many civil and military insignias. Happy in heavy or medium soils.
